Spring Thaw or Winter Cocoon?

We had a winter storm last week that dumped something like half a foot on us...
It was a really cold winter with very few days of snow play for the buns...
but the newest buns from the shelter actually don't seem to love the snow a whole lot,
not like our older crew;  Ella Luna, Roo Boo, Hazel, Jin and Noo Noo.

But at least it's a bit warmer now so we can start getting outside again...
(Jaks has a much longer wait since his whole entire belly couldn't be any balder!)
Every bun seems stir-crazy.  Every bun is digging at corners, blankets, pillows, etc.
I do always love the cocoon of a cold winter season & all the work I tend to get done during winter.
But for the buns sake (and our house!) I am hoping for a quick spring thaw!

Naughty Monkeys & Mouthy Nargles

It always strikes me as awesome....how different every single rabbit is.
And how they misbehave in different ways too!
Because we have been SO preoccupied with Jaks and Frenwyck the last while
we've also had some naughty monkeys to contend with....

Flynn gets naughty and gets into things he normally doesn't.
He'll toss anything around that his little mouth can manage to lift & throw!

Henrie & Elsie get rather indignant and stand-off-ish and really make you grovel for snuggles.
(and apparently chewing a big hole in my favorite studio carpet
was a bit of their special brand of payback for this week!)

Teela does the same thing, gets SUPER indignant, grumpy, turns her back to you,
pees where she shouldn't abit more than normal!
she even gets a bit nippy and will not hold back stomps & harrumphs.
As you can see from her very grumpy face, it's not hard to tell when she's unhappy with you!

It's interesting to see how the buns not being lavished with attention starts to behave differently.

The only one who is seeming to not be upset with us at the moment is
Yuuji our forever easy-going-happy-carefree little babe and the sweetie pie Min-Min.

I gotta say that seeing how unhappy most of them get
with a small change in their schedule and life
makes me feel every so very very lucky and happy
that I am able to be their stay-at-home-bun mama!

Glitter Bug 7

Here is another little bug.

After this one we'll get back to some other goodies for a bit I think.

This one is a teeny tiny 2 x 2" instead of the 3 x 3.

Same as the others however being a mixed media
but instead of on a canvas panel it's on a miniature 'stretched' canvas.

This original one of a kind teeny tinier guy is up for grabs for $18 + shipping.
See you tomorrow.

When It Rains It Pours

There's something in the air this week, my goodness!
All I know is that we've been having a hell of a few days,
so has some of my family and a handful of friends including my best friend
who is as I type this just begun a long journey to see her ailing mom back home.

Here's what's been happening in a nutshell with us...

Jaks's had a lumpectomy last Friday...
since than we've been watching him with vigilance for we want no stitch-pulling to happen
(and bunnies and cones just don't mix from our experience)
We're on top of his pain meds and antibiotic rounds.
Plus trying to be constant company for him so he knows he is not alone when he was feeling
so darn cruddy & obviously wondering what the hell just happened to him!
Though after the initial stiffness and soreness,
he seems more concerned about his shaved bald belly & not the cut!

On the SAME day of Jaks's surgery, Frenwyck completely stopped eating!

Closer inspection revealed front teeth that were way too long.
So we rushed him in to the doctors a couple hours after we brought Jaks home
(it was the first bunny vet appointment in 20 some years that I missed
because one of us had to stay home to watch a post-op Jaky).
We were hoping a quick teeth clipping would do the trick...
And yes, his front teeth were way to long but turns out he needed a whole dental procedure.
But they could only fit him in for the surgery the following Monday...
so it was a really long and stressed out weekend,
because, for us, any day where a bunny isn't eating feels sooo endless, scary & exhausting.

Poor guy had to be knocked out to have the front teeth taken care of but also his back molars
needed to be grinded down for they were also too long and were causing sores on his inner cheeks.

Poor babies.

He was suppose to go for a check-up and dental exam back in January...
I kept telling myself to book the appointment.  I guess I was preoccupied with Jaks's lump...
Which was odd for me because I usually pride myself on equally juggling 8 rabbits at the same time!
I know Lionheads are prone to dental troubles...ugh.
I should have know better & listened to my gut and booked him in way back in January.
Yep!  A whole lot of self-berating & beating up is now taking place!
(Emmett & Yuuji, being lionheads too, are promptly going in next week for their dental exams!)

On top of the teeth trouble Frenwyck was in full-blown g.i.stasis
(Which can quickly kill a bunny because it essentially means that their whole entire digestive system has come to a dead stop & sometimes you just can't get it going again)
He wouldn't eat or drink a thing for days so that involved force feeding of critical care every 4 hours,
pineapple juice feedings (the bromide in fresh pineapple can help to stimulate gut motility)
and medical promide injections behind the neck every 12 hours.
My arms, boobs and a chest are all bruised from his very strong little feet straining against me.

Now that he's had his teeth done, he's having a really hard time getting anything down.
But atleast now he's trying.  He's on pain-meds for the next few days (like Jaks)
apparently it will take a few days for the gum inflammation & soreness to go away.
It's hard seeing my baby want to eat but not being able to.
But atleast finally just today he started getting down mashed up soaked pellets.
He's still not eating enough though...but atleast Jaks is back to normal eating habits.

This has all been on top of sore bodies from sleeping on the floors with the little buddies
and on top of a 3 day super duper bad monster migraine.
Can I just say UGH...we're exhausted.
Am I allowed to admit that...somehow it feels like I am not!!!
I know it's because some 'real' parents have time and time again told me in their uppity way
"You don't know what stress is...if you had children you would know real stress...blah blah blah"!
But in my reality, my rabbits are my babies in every sense...and this has been real stress, period!

Cutting With Possibilities

Even though it's hard on my wrist I really do love the part
of a picture which finds me cutting things out.
The possibilities of paint colour for the backgrounds is limitless & freeing and gets me all hyper.

My brain gives all other things a break as I concentrate on cutting and not ripping delicate areas,
as I make sure to stay on the lines as much as possible
and mostly as I concentrate on not slicing my own finger off, since I use super sharp surgical blades!

Glitter Bug 1

Okay here we go...the very first of the 'Glitter Bugs'.

I decided against adding glitter (after doing one with) I just liked the cleanness without
and I think they still are jewel-like and "glitter-ish" without.

It is a 3" x 3" mixed media on a canvas board.

(This Glitter Bug is now SOLD and on it's way to Australia, YAY)

Happy 1st Year Biggens

I was hoping to start off with the first of the Glitter Bugs...
but I have to let the varnish coating dry really well before I can scan it in etc...so that'll be later today.

However, I can't let today go by without mentioning the Biggens.
For 1 year ago today we adopted them from the Toronto shelter.

It feels like we brought them home only a few months ago.

They've been so easy and so brilliant to have around.

My downstairs studio before them, had typically been a rabbit-free zone, for the most part!
When I decided to open up this room of mine too these two gentle giants,
I opened up even more of my heart cause they are just such wonderful souls to be around.
I now can't imagine not having them here sharing my studio with me.

So happy 1 year homecoming Elsie and Henrie Biggens, we love you oh so very very much XO.

Weekend Dose Of Cute

Yuuji wanted to be the one to offer up your dose of cuteness this weekend.
As you can see, he's all relaxed and content after some snow romping on the back deck,
which he and Teela partake in bright and early most mornings in the winter and early spring.

We hope your having a fabulous weekend...
we're enveloped in cold & ice but we're staying cozy & warm and we hope you are too.
See you tomorrow with the first Glitter Bug...psst...it's really pretty if I may say so myself.

Glitter Bugs For Jaks

So a few weeks ago we found a large lump on Jaks's tummy.

I didn't mention it here on the blog yet because it's was just stressing me out too much
and usually when something is freaking me out,
I need to take my own time to quietly process it and deal with it all in my own way.

On our doctors opinion and after many sleepless nights,
we've decided to go ahead with the surgery to remove the large lump
and to have it biopsied so we know if we're dealing with cancer or not.

So I've been spending alot of time in the upstairs studio,
which as you know, I share with Jaks,
just to be near my sweet spotted prince.

It's my routine whenever something is up with one of the buns.
It's my way I guess to deal with the scare and stress of it all....
to constantly be around, more than normal, offering an increased love dosage!

So as my spotted prince naps away,
I've been working on these bugs to cheer myself up.
I am calling them "Glitter Bugs".

They are all miniature.  A teeny tiny 2 x 2" and smaller and will be little mixed media gems.
I am going to finish up these first few this weekend.

Jaks surgery is going to be $600
and I thought maybe...
just maybe these little bugs can help pay for the cost of the surgery?!?

So starting next week, I'll start listing the originals...
they'll go for a great price of $20-$30 only.
Each one unique & original.
They'll be filled with bunny mojo, they will be full of glitter...I think they are going to be really fun.

So hop in next week to see the first few all finished up and snatch up any that you love.

See ya all next week XO.

Time For Mixed Media Play

It's feeling like a good week and time to break into some colour and mixed media.
So aside from some miniature bugs, I'll jump in with these cool c.pencil heads I did some time back.

I have no idea where they'll go, but I suppose that's the fun of playing with mixed media.
I don't plan them out as much as I would my usual illustrative work, soooo, we'll see!

The Week Looked Alot Like This

So, how was your week?
Mine was good than stressful than lovely again.

It started off celebrating my Dad's birthday with a great evening of good company & good food.
Which was was followed by snuggle time with bunnies in the sun....

...which was followed by art making time in the sun...

...than more sweet bun snuggles...Flynn has been falling asleep beside me in the mornings.

...which was followed by lots of ink drawing time with more Road To Avonlea episodes...

There was also a stressful vet visit (more on that next week).
Yuuji & I watched the grey squirrels wrestle and play every morning this week, so funny & sweet.
Spring is definitely here.

I am lighting a candle tonight for our Jin.  I can't believe she's been gone 1 year already.
Well, I hope your venturing off into a great weekend....see you next week I hope XO.
