The Fledglings Have Flown

It was wonderful to watch the robin nest this past month...

three babies successfully flew away with their Mama.

I climbed up just get a better peek at the nest and saw there was 1 little egg that was not viable

but I left the nest and egg where it was as Robins usually have 3-4 batches of babies every season

and whiles they tend to build a new nest for each brood, they will take material from old nests.

It was a honor to watch them.  The Moms are sooo dedicated.

I know how nervous Robins are around people typically so I was pretty touched that she

got used to me and seemed okay with me fairly close to her babies when I was out watering

the garden and trying to get some quick snaps of her beautiful babies.

Nature it so amazing & powerful, the world would be better if more people embraced it's magic.

Two Fuzzy Heads Then Three

A gorgeous robin found the perfect spot for a nest right on top of our vine trellis in the front garden.

I thought there were 2 but today I saw a 3rd head pop up.  I am utterly amazed by her & her babies.  

Huey The Woodpecker

So years ago we had to get a big 40 or 50 foot dying tree cut down in our back yard

but we asked the tree guys to leave like 15 feet of the stump and here's why...

Huey our woodpecker.  He comes every year and he chips away at the dead stump

and finds lots of food in there.  It's so satisfying & amazing to watch him, he works so hard to live.

Red Wings

This is one of my favorite all time photos from this past summer.

I saw some birds I've never seen before, like this amazing red beauty.

Dragonfly Nypmh

Do you know what this is?  This is a dragonfly nymph...

How super cool is it that this will turn into a dragonfly!

Bird Happy

Some days all I want to do is sit in my front window and watch the birds!
I am learning to embrace instead of fight whatever little thing brings me calmness & peace...

I've taken to photographing them through the picture window and can't wait to sit out in the garden
in stealthy silence with our camera, so in other words, prepare for lots of bird pics to come!

Ice Pattern

I was sitting there reading one morning a few weeks back and looked out the window to see this...

I gasped and said out loud "What Is That?"...I knew it was ice but I've never seen it do this before.

Owl Moth?

I am always finding these amazing guys in mornings in the summers

when I go out to fold laundry that has been hung to dry outside.

His awesome little precious face looks so much like an owl to me...an owl moth?

Does anyone have any idea what kind of moth this is, I can't find a match up anywhere!?

Heatwave Hiatus

Sorry guys that was a bit of an unplanned absence due to the heatwave

we have heavenly A/C now but we try to save power still & had all computers turned right off etc.

Beauties & Bees

I am going to skip Food Friday this week cause I just want to show you these beautiful flowers...

I don't know what they are but there sure did amaze me when we came across them when biking.

Spring At The Falls

This is a place that my honey & I love, especially since it's where we had our very first date

over 23 years ago, but I haven't been to it since last Spring,

not since before I badly dislocated my knee.

It was a bit of a workout still for my injured knee but the trees, rushing water, melting snow

were so good for the soul, I was able to push myself past the physical pain

and enjoy the day with my guy & my niece.

Though I am usually quite selfish with sharing my beloved Sony Alpha, ha ha...

seeing what fun my niece is having with it, especially on macro,

I find myself offering it to her on our outings because who knows, maybe she's a budding photographer and well it's pretty fun to see her face and excitement when we go through

the photos later in the day and she realizes that she got some great shots.

I am honestly pretty chuffed with the photos my Samsung Note 2 takes, such as all of these.

October Magic

Just when I think I've had my most favorite paddle yet

another time out fills my heart with awe and moves into first place...

 

 
 

This October time out was on a river just a 10 minute drive from our house and it was magical

& amazing and was so beautiful with the fall colours & birds I almost couldn't take it all in...almost!
