A Loved Garden & Life Cycle

I love how our little garden grows bigger and greener and prettier every year,

we've put in so much love and effort into this little house of ours...it sooo feels like ours, like us.

I don't know if we'll live here forever, maybe not, but I believe in blooming where your planted,

in rooting just right where you currently are.  Everyday I am grateful for my little home.

Every single bun-babe we've ever had has lived here with us, that is so special to me
and I love seeing everything spring to life and unfold with beauty every season

and than it all like slow-motion magic gets ready slumber for a spell,

usually just about when we're tuckered out from a season of hard work,

when we're ready to hibernate, it tucks in for a rest too.

The Covered Bridge

So when we first bought our first little home together,

we made this covered bridge, just the two of us,

it was quite the feat, making it just us two but we did for two reasons...

because my honey is a sweetheart and knows that I've always loved covered bridges

and because we needed a strategically placed structure to give us privacy when on our back deck.

 

 

 

Well this past season it needed quite a bit of TLC and we wanted to take care of it

because we both just love it still all these 14 some years later...

not just because of it's functionality but because it's a constant,
solid reminder to us of what we can achieve together.

It needed new footings, new braces, a good sanding, a brand new roof and
a brand new coat of paint and with all that done, it's looking wonderful again...

We'll be taking care of it together again in another 14 years if we're lucky.

Seed Collection

Do you collect seeds from your gardens?

I do, every single year, I take cuttings from every plant...enough to share if I want to.

 

 

I don't know if I'll manage to grow anything from them,

but there was something satisfying, cozy and warm just in the possibility of it!

Bittersweet Beauty

Things aren't over quite yet but we've actually had to turn our heat on already!
so I am naturally thinking back on the season as I do every year about this time.
Summer started off slowly with my injured knee early on in the season
& we resisted the yard for a tiny bit cause we just didn't want to be there without our Frenwyck...
but my oh my it's been such a good and wonderful Spring, summer and Fall...

 

I am looking forward to winter and diving into my studio time a lot more,

there's always way less distractions in the winter hibernation time!...

But I admit I am feeling slightly melancholy about wrapping another season up!

I don't know if Jaks will be with us next summer...I think that's making it all more bittersweet...

but we sure did enjoy our time outside this year and we took full advantage of it all

and that's what is most important at the end of it all isn't it!

Twiggs, Twine and Train Bridges

Busy busy busy...

cleaning up the yard...hanging with bunnies...finishing last minute yard projects...

 

 

 

Bundling up twigs to burn this winter...painting a train bridge...feeding the squirrels...

Harvest

This season we grew yellow tomatoes, grape tomatoes, yellow beans, peas, kale and cucumber

 

 

(I also tried zucchini but they crapped out pretty early on in the season, I don't know why exactly!)

 

 

It wasn't a stellar harvest, not as great as past seasons but I can't wait to grow things again next year.

How Does Your Garden Grow

It seems like just a couple weeks ago I was cleaning up the front garden

and getting it ready for the long season ahead...

 

 

 

 

Now suddenly it feels like a mad rush to enjoy these last summer days

because leaves are already turning yellow and falling to the ground...sigh!
