Random Road Trips

One of our favorite things to do has always been just to pick a road and see where it takes us....this time it was way out in the middle of nowhere on active logging roads where I had to pee on the side of the road and where we were racing in front of logging trucks because there was nowhere to pull off safely!  But in the spots where we could pull off safely the scenery was breathtaking.

(this butterfly is called an Aphrodite Frittilary...Isn't that the prettiest name!)

We ended up at one point along the shores of St. Bernard where there was a sudden & stark reminder of the world we've created by eating animals!
But it was also a good reminder that we're lucky we have a vehicle & the time to take these random spur of the moment road trips that help us clear our minds & hearts of life's stresses, it's one thing safe things we can do nowadays as long as we stay in the vehicle and far away from people!!!

Seeking Beauty

It's sometimes hard to stay positive & happy when you read all the news out there...
it feels like it's all bad...like the story of the kids stuck in that underwater Thailand tunnel, ugh...
or stories recently from certain animal sanctuaries I follow online, it all weighs heavily on my heart.
(which is why I started doing Share Sunday, to share positive & beautiful things).
I always find beauty here in our home & with the bunnies which I can rest my weary heart upon

but we're also lucky to live really close to this beautiful lake and it has the magic touch
of lifting a lot of burdens with a nice dose of sunset gorgeousness.
I know I am not the only one feeling super sensitive right now, it seems to be a 'thing'
straight across all types of people on all types of social media right now, isnt' that interesting!
Tell me my peeps, what is your secret for a much needed spark of joy & lightness???

A Few Weeks Back

This was a few weeks back, before Betty-Loo died...

We were just out doing our usual ice melting Spring explorations.

Lake Life

We are so lucky to live pretty close to this big beautiful lake...
it's only about a 10 minute walk away...
We go here a lot after work to decompress, for sunsets, for short breaks from the buns,
after, before & in between errands...
it always seems to beckon "Come sit and breathe for a spell.."

Our 2nd date was here, along this lake, a long leisurely stroll at night in thick heavy fog...
almost 25 year ago now...
we love it so, it's part of us. I tell my hon, when I die, he's to spread most of my ashes in this water!
It's a place that soothes, refreshes and amazes us with it's always changing beauty.
I hope you have a special place like this in your part of the world XO

Adventures In Kayaking With A Big Red Dog

A few days ago we ventured out during the week long heat-wave for a paddle...
I needed to clear my head from a busy and confusing week in the studios.
I wanted to sink my eyes into deep greens & reflective blues & take a breather from all my color.
This day we chose to venture down the Mattawa River.
It was so hot that I think even the fish were laying still and quiet,
all you could hear was the buzz of the crickets...
That is however until we heard the frantic barking of a dog
far off on the other shore in the middle of nowhere!
When we started to head towards him to see what was going on,
he got extra worked up and than jumped into the water and started to swim to our boats,
still barking like crazy, sputtering water, it was obvious he was looking for help.

He tried to jump into my boat, the poor thing, he was so tired from swimming,
I tried to haul him up but he was just too big and heavy but I didn't like how he was sputtering water
so whiles my honey flagged down a house boat for possible assistance,
I decided it best to steer him to the other shore which he was clearly intent on getting to,
I patted his back now and than and kept my boat pressed gently against his side,
and like that we eventually reached the other shore
where he shook himself off and peeled off into the bush at sonic speed.
It seemed like he knew where he was going after that because he stopped barking so we are
hoping he found his way home, atleast we steered him to the side of the river that was inhabited!
Kayaking is never dull that's for sure, ha ha!

Fairy Lake Kayaking

Our adventure days don't always have a plan, sometimes we pack up the truck with food, boats and bikes and just head out of town and see where the day takes us, sometimes we just hike or sit & eat!

This particular day was spent paddling around a lake in Huntsville called Fairy Lake.  Even though
I pay for kayaking days with a lot of shoulder pain, I am so grateful for these days with my honey.
