Kindness is Key

It's so depressing on Instagram lately...
all I am seeing are animals being abandoned, like bunnies in parks because people can't be
bothered to feed them or care for them during the pandemic.
I am seeing videos of dogs being gathered up and being burned alive
because people fear catching the Corona virus from them...

I've been having to take a break here and there, especially last week during Easter
seeing all of the baby bunnies flooding into shelters, needing homes...ugh.  I can't take it sometimes.
If we can't be kind to all kinds, to the most vulnerable, to those with absolute innocence and
those who have absolutely no voice of their own then what the heck is even the point of it all???
Please take time to check in with people around you to see if they need help with their animals.

The North Star Travelling Cafe

There has been this somewhat elusive phenomenon in our little tiny city, ha ha...
It's an amazing, adorable, quaint, special and very vegan phenomenon
called 'The North Star Travelling Cafe"

You gotta get to the farmers markets early or they are usually cleared right
out of their gastronomical delights & than your whole day kinda sucks, ha ha!
They are opening a restaurant in our very not vegan town & my tummy grumbles with anticipation!

Leisel and Hyde!

One of our newest adoptees, Leisel, has been a really big handful.
She's pretty messed up emotionally and it's like dealing with Jekyll and Hyde!  Poor girl.
One minute she wants nothing but snuggles & she melts into you
and the next she's on attack mode and boy oh boy this girl has quite the harsh bite!

This goes to show that you never know what kind of personality your bunny will have,
they aren't always sunshine and sweetness...well that's usually under any flying teeth!!
Sometimes it takes a long time and a whole lot of love to get them past all of the bad habits.
We concentrate on her good because she without a doubt is a lovely sweet girl under the naughty!

Compost Cutie

I always feel lucky that I have such a handy guy (even after 23+ years he never fails to impress me).

Well he loves to compost, kitchen stuff, rabbit stuff, you name it if we can compost it, we will.
So we needed a much bigger composter because all of our other ones were full.
So as I worked on my own project (the never ending kitchen deck painting!)
My hon bun set out in just one day to make us a new one...

I just love it, he did a great job (and man I just think he's super insanely cute...swoon...ha ha).

Finding A Fledgling

We came across a bit of wild magic...
in the middle of a busy road,
being narrowly missed by each car barreling by,
we saw this little fledgling, peeping away, obviously lost & helpless.

I didn't think twice, I knew my hon bun would block traffic with the truck as best as possible
whiles I jumped out to try to help the little darling
(or rather I hobbled out cause I had my knee brace on!)

I thought it would be enough to scoop her up off the road but when I did so,
she was obviously even more helpless than I originally thought...
so I followed her, she didn't know where to go poor sweet-ling.
So I called Jonathan for help, he came with a blanket, gently scooped her up and home we went.
We couldn't leave her there to starve or get squashed!

So afternoon plans now out the window...lunch gone bad from too long out in heat...
we sat in the yard with her for the rest of the day, thinking she'd get her baring's and be on her way.
But she wouldn't move after hours and finally when a chipmunk scared the bejeezus out of her,
causing her to get tangled up and stuck in a thorny rosebush...we decided to bring her in for the night.

She would let me hold her on my chest as Jonathan opened her mouth and popped food in.
Fresh corn kernels, fresh peas, little pieces of cherry and such.
If we held up a teaspoon to her mouth she would drink 2 or 3 spoons all in one go.
After eating, tucked against my warm neck, she'd fall asleep and nap away.

And so it went like this for a couple weeks...feeding her and her napping on me.
We researched online and it became clear that we couldn't let her go until we saw she could fly
and saw that she could recognize food on the ground and feed herself...
well little miss didn't do that for quite some time!

Almost a month later, she is still here...we'll see what happens!
But this has been the perfect example of what I mean when I tell people to let their
sensitively and vulnerability shine through because it's through these
that we experience many of life's beautiful mysteries and magic's...
we refused to be just any one of the cars just looking but still zooming on by
and thank goodness for that because she's been some kind of magic in our little household!

Coloring Page, Kindness & Easter Oh My!

So you know on this dear blog of mine
I try to spread some knowledge and kindness about house rabbits
and with Easter just around the corner I am already thinking about
all the sweet precious bunnies that will sadly be bought as Easter presents
and about how many of those Easter bunnies end up in a shelter (sometimes not such a good 'shelter')
or worse how they are 'let lose' in the wild and therefore sent to certain awful death
because, let's face it, house rabbits just don't have the skills to survive on their own in the wild.
So much sadness is about to ensue just because people don't research house rabbits first.
It's quite plain and simple...Rabbits aren't for everyone.
So for the next couple of weeks I'll be doing special posts on the days I usually don't blog...
These posts will hopefully spread the word to people (especially to parents)
to think before they purchase a bunny as an Easter present.
And that, if we can't discourage the purchasing of a rabbit for Easter
than hopefully we can encourage the route of adoption over pet shop buying.

Now usually these sweet colouring pages of mine
are just for the sweet group who are signed up to "Keep In Touch"
BUT this month and this month only,
in an attempt to spread some kindness and knowledge
I am going to offer you this coloring page of mine for free
All you have to do is share my blog link www.BijousWhimsy.Blogspot.com
anywhere on your social media, be it on your own Blogs, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc...
just tell me where & when your doing so in an email (email me at Whimsy@MandySaile.com)
and I'll happily email you back with the page and a big thank you for helping me spread the word
about how awesome rabbits are but how they shouldn't be an impulse Easter purchase
Sound Good?
And even if you don't want the colouring page, I encourage you to share these posts anyways.

Grabbing Onto Gratitude

Whiles at a party over this past weekend the subject of fulfillment seemed to spring up often.
People commented on how 'content & comfortable' I look lately and I loved that observation
because I have been feeling like I've settled into loveliness even that much more recently...

I have physically & emotionally wiggled my little tush down into comfort even more so.
I am indeed breathing in deeply.
I have been feeling very satisfactory loveliness with no strings attached.
I don't think it's because anything at all has changed except perhaps for my perspective.

I think it's also about grabbing onto gratitude a lot more assuredly these days.
Not everything is perfect...but now it's not so much about the imperfections anymore.
It's become all about what is working...
it's become about more quickly and more fully embracing what is simple and warm and wonderful
(like lunch with a handsome boy and with veggies you've grown yourself as buns zoom around you!)

I have only ever wanted days full of time with my honey,
long days of making art in cozy studios, ample time for favorite things like
cooking beautiful food...loads of reading time with good cups of coffee, taking care of animals, etc...
We've worked hard...we've made hard decisions...but we've gotten there finally...
Life has become about; love, art, bunnies, embracing happiness and a million other good things.
There's so so much good stuff going on...

and yeah, there's bad stuff happening most of the time too, for sure...that's life.
BUT the good stuff really has been out weighing all of the bad.
I've been kind of feeling a shift...a positive new change in how I see things.
And well I am just feeling so so very very insanely super grateful.
I hope you are feeling it all too XO.

Make Sure Yours Is Chocalate

Easter is here.
We hate Easter.
Every year thousands of rabbits are given as presents.
And every year the shelters are flooded soon afterwards.
Don't make another precious rabbit another unwanted statistic.

Help to spread a message of intelligence & kindness and
Make Sure Your Easter Bunny Is Of The Chocolate Variety.
If you love animals; Facebook, Tweet, Pin & share this post...quick now go....spread the word.

Play Lightly

Wow, a brand new year of blogging ahead of me once again.  Exciting.

I think it's a good idea to start things off with a brand new illustration.

This one is called "Play Lightly" and is pretty much all Prismacolour on paper.

It's been a long & very cold winter so a dose of colour & summer-time dreaming is in order I think.

I have much to share with you.  I really hope you will join me often over this new year.

I promise, as always, to share the best & most positive of my unique self, here on my beloved blog.

Happy ThanksGiving With A Recipe

I made this dish last Thanksgiving and it was a hit
so I'll make it again for our vegetarian spread this year.

Spicy Cumin and Carrot Spread

Here's how you make it:

Take about a pound of carrots and boil them till they are cooked right through.
Rinse them off in cool water to stop the cooking process.
Then, put the carrots into a food processor with
2 cloves of chopped garlic, 2 teaspoons of chili sauce,
1 tsp of cumin, a pinch of salt & pepper, 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
& 2 tablespoons of fresh cilantro or mint.
Blend it all up till mushy and well blended.
Put in your favourite bowl, drizzle with olive oil and serve with your favourite crackers or bread.
You can even add it to sandwiches, wraps, soups or dallops of it to mash potatoes
Yummy and healthy.

Happy Thanksgiving All
