Esme & The Butterflies

I finished up a new mixed media.

It's called...
"Esme & The Butterflies"

She is part of a new series I've just started and I can't wait to do more because I had a ball with this one.

Prints of Esme will be available in my Etsy shop.
The original will be posted in my Etsy shop shortly, but if you want to grab it
before anyone else does than just email me.

I am off to warm up with a cup of coffee and a few pages of a book
before I enter another day of assisting Ella Luna with her hopping
and snippets of artwork whenever she stays still & takes a nap!
(and when my head will allow...it's been a crappy couple of weeks for headpain I admit)

p.s.  Jonathan and I watched a wonderful movie this past weekend,
It's called 'The Way' and is a movie by Emilio Estevez...
We loved it and thought it was one of the best movies we've seen in awhile.
If you love movies about human strength & souls coming together to help heal one another,
I highly recommend it.

The Feathered Breasts

A new image just finished up this morning
(in the off times when I am not acting as a bunny crutch, ha ha)

It's called 'The Feathered Breasts'
and is a acrylic and coloured pencil painting on gessoed muslin.

A somewhat cheeky yet whimsical commentary on you know what, ha ha....
Cause a woman can have the most divine face, the most spectacular eyes, the best hat ever,
the nicest hair...but if you've got a chest of any size or shape...well you know the drill.

I don't know where it came from,
The image just popped in my head one day and I thought
'hmmm....that'll be a fun one to make'
...and indeed it was.

Have a great day everyone, see you soon.

Leda

So back to some artwork, as promised...
I admit to not being super busy in the studio these last few weeks,
but than a gals gotta enjoy some summer holidays with her honey-pie too...

I thought you may all like to see my beautiful goddess
"Leda"
She is a woman in tune & in complete alignment with nature...it is she and she is it...

Here is how she came about...

I am still trying to figure out what kind of frames to put on them.  I am thinking ornate gold ones.

Prints of them will be available by the end of this week I believe.

Well, I spent a couple hours at the dentist this morning.
A couple hours at the movies with my mom in the afternoon.
Next on the agenda is quite abit of paperwork in the studio (yuck!)
But part of that paperwork is because I was the lucky recipient of an
Ontario Arts Council Exhibition Assistance Grant,
which is so wonderful & helps me out alot to cover costs from my last solo exhibition, so YAAAYYY.
Than, hopefully I am looking at a good couple hours with my prismas...

Hope your week is off to a good start.

The Conversation

Another little tiled piece.  This one is called....

"The Conversation Between Leeson & Thibeault"

...Are they gossiping...
...are they complaining....
...are they being kind and giving each other words of encouragement...
well I guess we'll never quite know...

What would 2 feathered friends be likely to chat about???
(I personally think they are of the gossipy variety, ha ha)

This one is another mixed media on a wood block with a row of tiles.
(I can't believe I messed up the order of the tiles!)
My dad made me some frames for my exhibition and I just adore them so much,
they add so much finish and punch to the pictures.

Have a lovely iced-tea & bird-song filled day....

Merret St.John

Finally I introduce you to the 3rd birdie making up the motley crew alongside

...kindly say Hello to....

Merret St.John

Merret seems to be the more serious leader of the group with a keen interest in the weather....
Shim is abit of a joker and likes to keep things light and positive...
Whiles Camden is a keep-on-schedule & mapped-out-route type of fella...
A motley feathered crew indeed that just seems to work perfectly together.

(Prints of all 3 are coming soon)

I am off to another full day of photo editing
(I always really enjoy this task)...
It's the perfect day to do so to because as I always chant on rainy days....
"It's Raining, It's Pouring The Bunnies Are Snoring"
(espeacially after a few hours of leaping and zooming around the grass the last few days)

Thanks oodles for stopping by.

XO Mandy & her 4 dozing fur babies XO

p.s. Do you guys prefer the x-large images or just the large, like in this post???
...I can't make up my mind!

Camden Trott-Worth

Introducing Shim's little feathered buddy...

Camden Trott-Worth

I really like this little series, there are 3 so far...one more to show you after this guy.

Our long weekend was most excellent & included lots of lovelies like:
Gardening & tomato planting
rabbits frolicking outside
reading in the pouring rain
oodles of movies
soft ice cream by the lakeside whiles ducks visited at our feet
going to bed each night to the sounds of the carnival just down the street
running to a window every time we heard fire works being set off in neighbouring backyards
and being lulled happily every evening by frogs croaking away midnight tunes
....ahhh.....
I am feeling a bit more smoothed out now....

Did anyone do anything special???

Shim Bivel-Baum

My exhibition installation shots aren't ready to share yet so I thought I'd introduce you to
a new little guy who is in the exhibition but whom you've not seen yet...

Meet...

Shim Bivel-Baum

He is a mixed media on canvas...that brillant strip of orange is actually a silk ribbon...
he has 2 other pals you'll be meeting soon.
Isn't he a cutie with one of thee best names, ha ha (I let Jonathan name the cuties in this series).

Hope your all having a sweet, green-filled, bee-buzzing day...we certainly are.

Hattie and Humphrey

Happy Monday.  I hope all the mommies out there had a special weekend....
Today I am hopping in quickly to introduce you to....

"Hattie and Humphrey"

These two pals love to talk & quarrel over politics.
By day, Hattie is a newspaper columnist and Humphrey is her fact checker.
By night they crochet, knit and spin yarn to make sweaters for orphaned orangutans...
Ah two souls after my own heart.

This is a mixed media & I had so much fun with it.
Give me some coloured pencils and I know I can work some magic but paints...epp...I still get nervous BUT
I am learning to accept my meager painting skills & to still enjoy the process of painting...
I mean I am not after a Mona Lisa creation after all, ha ha.
This sweetie is acrylic paint and ink on a papered and painted background.
(Prints will be available soon)

See you Wednesday for a special giveaway.

New Bird

Another new bird.

This one hasn't been named yet because like the other one in this series, I've still not decided weather or not I am putting words on the tiles, if I do, that would determine the title, hmmm....what to do, what to do...

Anyhoo, it's another coloured pencil collaged onto a painted wood block with a row of glass tile...

Just another simple piece to try to turn a more eyes to nature & the beauty of it's natural inhabitants whom we should be ever so respectful towards.

He'll be framed in a simple black frame.

I don't know what's with this bird kick I am on in the last year or so, I think it's the beauty and possibilities in a birds shape, colour & plumage that has my creativity stirring lately...So I am just going with it.

I've still not gotten my scanner troubles figured out, but when I do a print will be available.

Owlette Oberon

A new Owlette...this one has a more serious and stern personality and is named 'Oberon'...

He's done in coloured pencil with a teeny bit of acrylic paint on gessoed pine.

I LOVE him & am so pleased with how he turned out.  (prints will be available soon)

I cut all of the owl shapes this past summer & have 8 or 9 more to play with, can't wait.

XO Mandy & The Sleeping Bunnies.
