Mixed Media Heads

I've really been wanting to do more of my mixed media ladies...

I already have three started but I am one of those artists that bounces between several pieces at once.

My Mixed media pieces seem to always start with a woman's head,  I like to have fun with the hair.

but right now, I've misplaced the redhead! I am searching high and low for her, ha ha!

Pet Portraits

Animals are hands down my most favorite thing to draw and colour.

Just in case you don't already know,

I can do simple, small and sweet custom pet portraits for you...

Prices would vary from $60cdn-$80cdn for 4x4"-5x7" and they'll be done like this cutie,

in coloured pencil which is than cut out and mounted onto a painted wood canvas.

Duo In Orange & Blue

Here it is...the blue and orange bunnies I've been giving you sneak peeks of...

It's the first time I mixed watercolour with black & white ink pen work, I am pretty happy with it.

I don't know if I'll be listing prints of it yet.  If I do, I'll let you know.

Orange and Blue Duo

I started this one in watercolour....than I moved onto coloured pencil...than onto ink pen...

It ended up being a bit different from what I normally do...I'll scan it in & show ya on Thursday.

Push or Put Away

Finally back on my desk this week...

A mixed media I started way too long ago!

I hope I make good progress on her this week cause I sure do think she's quite pretty so far.

Sometimes you gotta push past the uncertainty of a piece and keep plugging away

and sometimes you gotta put work away for a spell before you ruin it

and come back to it with a fresher attitude at a later time...such was the case with this one!

These bugs of mine aren't real of course, just my re-imagining inspired by the real thing.

Flowers to Press

Most flowers that pass through this house get a 2nd life

as I press them in my homemade super nifty flower presses.

It is a process I love.  Somehow it's relaxing.

 

 

 

 

 

...It's exciting because you never know what you'll get,

Some flowers turn out amazingly, others rot out...

I am sure they'll make their way into mixed medias someday, atleast that's been the plan!

AOM Alumni Exhibition

3 of my mixed media ladies are at the AOM Gallery

for an Alumni Invitational Show

Featuring all new work from Art On Main's current & past alumni.

 

The show opened on July 1st and runs until August 31

with a reception this coming Friday, July 17th.

Here is another little bug.

This one is a teeny tiny 2 x 2" instead of the 3 x 3.

 

Same as the others however being a mixed media

but instead of on a canvas panel it's on a miniature 'stretched' canvas.

This is to date, my favorite illustration yet.

This is one of those rare occasions where the tangible turns out better than what was floating about

in my head.  I love the mood I achieved with the painted background mixed with the

crispness & fun of the foreground bits.

This image is for any animal lover.

Especially those who love the coziness of rain and of September...

It's for those souls like me, who rush outside everyday to feed the furry monkeys out there

as well as any monkeys you may have inside.

Tamsin, Trafalski, Tamina and Thibbs

The old adage 'Nature is red in tooth and nail' is sadly very true

and I am always acutely aware of the fact that rabbits are a prey animal...

even house rabbits, have a very strong flight reflex.

Once in a while I like to give my tender heart a break and let it roam loose in an imaginary

world where rabbits are safe and live peacefully alongside all of the animals.

 

So everyone meet one of my little forest protectors and animal wranglers,

the 4th and possibly final character in the series,

the lovely, the heart strong mademoiselle Tamsin and her motley furry feathered crew...

(I was working on this image when Jinny was sick,

so I purposely made the one rabbit in her beautiful bluish grey coloring)

The Exclusive Party

Oh boy have I ever been having a rough go with another really bad 3.5 day migraine from hell!

So it's feeling like the most perfect time to show you this new illustration of mine

because Jonathan & I pride ourselves on living our own unique lives.

We don't try to fit in...we rarely ever do.

We've learnt that together with our motley crew of long-earred loves
(& sometimes a bird or squirrel or ground hog thrown in too!)
that it's only the little group of us that needs to 'get it' because it's us who live & love this life.
 

So yes, with me being out of commission yet again,

I can't help but embrace this precious little island of sorts we've created together.

Despite the negativity of the pain and all that that entails
I still feel richly surrounded

by beauty, goodness, love, endless gentle support
and my sweet motley crew of beautiful pals...

 

I am on an island with my love of loves that I never never ever ever want to leave...it's me...it's us...
