He's a Black Chinned Yuhina and has quite the interesting story...

but guess what? There are only 3 ways you can hear about his intriguing tale

She's Ready For Her Background

Well I think she's going to be named 'Veda'...

 

 

and it's looking like she's all ready for the next step, her painted background.

Quirky Chicks

Even though my head has been pretty bad I've been getting new pictures started.

 

 

It's a new series starting with 4 quirky chicks who will carry inspirational messages from me to you.



Working Slowly

Coloured Pencil can be a really slow medium...

It doesn't happen often but sometimes when I am stuck on a picture I put it aside for awhile.

 

When I feel like I can move forward without massively screwing things up

Only than will I pull it back out and return to work... 



because unlike other mediums, coloured pencils are also very unforgiving

and corrections are not easily made...

 

 

So I put "Beguiling Junipter" away for awhile because of was unsure of the background.

I didn't know if I wanted to do paint or full on pencil...

 

once I decided on full on coloured pencil I got back to work on her.

I am pretty sure she'll be completely done this week and I think she's gonna be something pretty cool.

Working On Weisner

I am working on a new little character...

 

 

Hi name is 'Weisner" and I think he's going to be one cool little dude!

Lama

A lama amongst stars and clouds and hills and grass.

A lama with some pretty nifty fashion sense too!

 

 

Today and this weekend I am working on some of my little quirky creature stories...

Why???  For now it's a secret....but I'll spill the beans sooner than later, I promise!

Tamsin, Trafalski, Tamina and Thibbs

The old adage 'Nature is red in tooth and nail' is sadly very true

and I am always acutely aware of the fact that rabbits are a prey animal...

even house rabbits, have a very strong flight reflex.

Once in a while I like to give my tender heart a break and let it roam loose in an imaginary

world where rabbits are safe and live peacefully alongside all of the animals.

 

So everyone meet one of my little forest protectors and animal wranglers,

the 4th and possibly final character in the series,

the lovely, the heart strong mademoiselle Tamsin and her motley furry feathered crew...

(I was working on this image when Jinny was sick,

I do find myself feeling greatly nourished & soothed by green tea with honey.
But it's also an image for any tea lover.

Wolowitcz

Meet

 

"Wolowitcz"

 

a new little 5 x 7" coloured pencil/mixed media character

 

 

Wolowitcz is a complicated little dude but he focuses his energies his 3 biggest loves.

 

1) being an advocate for birds and battling against the illegal capturing & caging of tropical birds.

(Though he dreams nightly of the universal freedom of all birds).

 

2) he teaches lock picking!

That's right...he tries to communicate with caged birds and secretly

shows them how to pick the locks on their cages so that they can be free.

(the whole 'teach a fisherman to fish & he eats for a lifetime' type of scenario)

He doesn't charge anything for this at all, his only rule is that the bird he teaches &

helps to be free must move on to teach some other bird the same skills.

(His great aunt left him a very hefty endowment, allowing him his life of  bird philanthropy).

 

3) he is quite addicted to making rice wine.

Now to be clear, he only drinks 3 or 4 glasses a week himself

but he just loves to bottle his special mixtures up, hand draw one of a kind unique labels

for each bottle and than give them away to his beloved friends and family...

and of course a bottle is uncorked every time one of his lock picking students

does indeed secure their own freedom.

 

Wouldn't he be an interesting little dude to meet and share a glass of rice wine with?  ha ha.

 

Another Rabbit Inkling & 6 Years

On top of my exhibition, this week I am preparing for something huge...I can't wait to tell you.
 

I am enjoying more time with my ink pens & more little inklings...doesn't this one look like our Jin.
I just love it and can totally picture it on a tote bag.

Today marks my 6th year of blogging.  Wow.

 

 

I remember my very first post,
I was so nervous, tentative, unsure of who in the world would care about anything I wrote or showed, it took me hours to hit the publish button, ha ha.
I wasn't quite knowing what my blog was about or would become or even if I'd keep it up.
Now 6 years in and almost 1000 posts later, it feels like a cozy home and a labor of love,
a beautiful space for show and tell, a meeting place for new friends,
a gentle spot to lay open my heart and my tender soul...knowing I'll be met with kindness & support.
Well now 6 years down the road, I am planning on blogging for atleast another 6, ha ha!
