From Scatch With Love

Just before winter (bfore Jonathan got sick)
he made me this beautiful new work desk for my upstairs studio.  I LOVE it.

He said that my old one was bending in the middle from the weight of all the plants I had on it
and well Flynn sleeps underneath so he said 'you need a much safer one' & here it is made with love.

Ah studio time...now matter how long I've been an artist, no matter how much or hard I work...

The days I get to be among my plants & colours is always one of my favorite places to be.

Missing My Spaces

With so much going on health wise I haven't been in my studio much lately...
I miss it terribly, both of my studios, I feel kinda guilty about that but it's the truth, I miss my work.

I haven't been able to concentrate on anything lately for all our health worries but I am seeing that
I have to get in there for a bit somehow very soon for my own sanity, I am just not me without it!

Lydia & Her Room

Lydia and I are trying to figure out where to put our little pink Xmas tree this year...

Desk space is at a premium & we do have to keep light cords away from those nibbly teeth!

A Place Of Happy

I am trying a new studio schedule,
as much of a schedule one can keep with migraine/headaches anyhow
and it's feeling really good so far...there are some growing pains of course but that's okay.

I love my studios...I am lucky to have two, one upstairs and a bigger one downstairs,
they are undoubtedly my happy places, especially because I get to share them with rabbits.
Where is your happy place?  send me a link, I love seeing where other people spend their time.

Hopefully In The Studio

It's been a hard week for head-pain...I am behind again on originals I've wanted to get finished up...

But as I always say, I can only fight against the pain so much, there's only so much I can do...

So hopefully next week is better and I can start getting some of these beauties photographed & listed!

Really Slow Redhead

My peace loving redhead is almost done and almost ready for her background...
This one has been a slow crawl but than many pictures are like that.

If my body smartens up long enough to let me get into the studio,
I'll show you her completed self next week.

Snowy Slowness

It's a snowy stormy grey week...

I am slowly getting back into the groove of the studio...slowly...

All I feel like drawing are bunnies right now, so that's what I am doing, like this newest pair.

Things I Need & Growth Underway

I've been realizing with much quicker clarity these days
that I mostly just need simple things.
Such as days where I care and dote on animals...at present time that's 8 sweet rabbits.
I need, no matter what we're doing, as much time as possible with my beautiful bearded hon bun.
I need days and nights full of time for making joyful and whimsical things.
I need calmness and time to take care of myself and my head pain.
I need time to make our sweet sanctuary of a home cozier day by day.
I need abundant beauty which encompasses a whole whack of lovely things such as beautiful music
tinkling through the house, inspirational books that make my heart tingle, time by & on the water,
slow mornings with good coffee, healthful vegetarian fare to eat, time with my folks, etc....
because all these things are as necessary as air to my lungs.

Now more than every I am acutely aware that I get to live things all things
pretty much every single day...if I go about my days smartly...
sure some days are more successful in time well spent than others but hey,
there's always going to be a learning curve!

This new picture I have underway is about growth
especially growth from the pain we all suffer...
growth from all the sore, bruised and raw heartache that we all go through in some form or another.
and whiles I work on it and relive that raw pain of not just loosing a soul bunny
but from other crap going on in life...
I am reminded of my big simple priorities....
and I am reminded that I grow to love all that simple good stuff more so because of the bad times.
I feel lucky....
I feel like I am growing into a continually more peaceful place in my life...
and ya know what else? I really can't wait to show you the finished piece.

Sometimes You Just Gotta

Schedules are I think, more often than not, a necessity for full-time artists...
especially those of us who have our studios in our homes
where we face a thousand distractions throughout the day!
Strict routines are key to getting everything done, or at least a fair amount done.

As much as I may want to, I have a really hard time keeping up with routines and schedules.
I am in fact envious of those who can invent their own schedules and keep to them,
for my headaches and migraines are typically the scheduler of my days.
But if I am having a good pain-free streak
I do often find myself snapping into a routine very easily & quickly
and I get SOOOO much done...but for me, that can sometimes be depressing too,
depressing because I realize how much further ahead I'd be if I could stick to a schedule!

But head pain aside...
even on the best of days where your feeling like a million bucks and like you could tackle anything,
Sometimes you gotta throw the studio schedules to the wind
and just let the day take you where it wants to go...

Maybe it's time to transfer some lovely local honey from your big honey pot to your smaller one...

Than maybe the day will find you sitting on the floor
to let your little furry buddies climb all over you as laughter bubbles up from your tummy...

Than perhaps because you skipped breakfast your tummy starts to growl on top of the bubbling,
so you take just 30 or 40 minutes to take in a healthy snack...

Than maybe for creative clarity, you find yourself cleaning up your workspaces...

...and letting your buddies help you out with some organizational ideas...

Than just maybe the day encourages you to snuggle that every so helpful bun for a short spell...

Than opps well my oh my look at that it's way past lunch time
and your starving so it's time for a late lunch with a book before heading into the studio
at least for an hour or two before the sun starts to go down!
And before you know it, the blue hour arrives...
it's time to start dinner...it's time to settle into the evening.
You reminiscence on the day you just had
and you do a mental check on what you've accomplished
and you realize with a happy heart that it's okay that you diverted from your plan...
it's more than okay because you enjoyed the day, you went with the flow.

Because as much as you want to have studio days full of accomplishments
you did accomplish something by filling your well.
And you filled your creative well by making your day as sweet and as good as possible
by dipping your ever so winter-dry toes into the lovely wet softening flow
of just letting things just be exactly how they wanted to be every moment of the day...
and how often do we do that!  Not often enough if you pay attention to how stressed everyone is...

So I am a firm believer, oh yes I am, I believe that sometimes you just gotta let go
and enjoy a day that meanders along slowly around unknown corners...
you just have to enjoy a day that slowly milks the sweetness out of every hour
as you embrace the beauty and simplicity of letting each task lead gently unto the next.

Ahhhhhh.....yes...sometimes you just gotta.

Studio Sunsets

I love the part of the day where I am all snuggly cozy at my coloured pencil desk,
which overlooks our front yard and the quiet court that we live on.
The sun starts to go down & I look forward to our evening routine beginning...

...I bask in the last delicious minutes with my colours for the day...
I bask in the beauty of that setting sun & hopefully also in a studio day well spent....
ahhhhhh....little things...as always.

Today

Today is calling loud and clear for advil and codeine, hot water bottles and loads herbal tea...

And a stubborn attitude to fight the pain as I spend time with my sketchbook as jazz floats about me.

A Favourite Place

Hi ya.  I hope you had a great weekend?  Today I wanted to show you a spot dear to my heart.
This is one of my most favorite places to spend my time...
It's my coloured pencil work area in my upstairs studio.
I love it on sunny days.  I love it on rainy days.
I love it during the daylight hours & as much at night.
I love that Jaks sleeps by my feet the whole time I am here.
I love seeing people walk by, the snow falling, plants in the front garden moving in the breezes...
Ahhhh...it's a happy space for sure.

I love being surrounded by the colours of my beloved pencils.
I love that this room is jam packed with plants.
I adore the 'heating board' that my honey made for me for my last birthday,
it melts the pencils just enough to make them feel like butter
and it's heavenly on my always achy wrist.
I especially like that it's right off the kitchen so I can keep working whiles my hon makes dinner.
Or I can peek into the living room & see the tv or a roaring fire.  Ahhhh.

I am lucky.  I have many desks and work spaces set up for my art work! something like 10 maybe!
That doesn't count the comfy couch or all the spots I set up for myself outside in the summers!
Well, what is that old saying...
"Too Much Of A Good Thing Is Wonderful" ha ha!

A Secret Spot

Let me show you something secret like...

In my house, on a pretty little blue shelf which holds some of my most favorite stuff...

...Sits a very special and secret book...

But Shhhh....it's not a book..it's a box

...a secret box that holds one of my favorite mediums...my ink pens, notecards & inklings in progress.

I adore this box & what it contains...it's kinda like magic for me.

So easy to grab & use on the couch, floor, bed, in the yard, the truck, at the beach, whilst visiting...

Okay, so not so secret now, but still just as lovely, ha ha!

Sleepy Bunnies & Falling Leaves & Barbie

It's a quiet day today...
perfect for a sweet hot tea, cozy napping bunnies & diving under a warm blanket
to start in on a new book called 'Homeward Bound' by Emily Matchar
whilst bright yellow leaves fall like rain outside of the studio windows.
I think there might just be time to squeeze in a Barbie movie too as we draw later on this afternoon...

Yep, that's right, I am 36 years old, child-free-by-choice and I unashamedly admit to
loving the Barbie movies and in fact this Friday night I plan to watch some Tinkerbell too.
That's right, bring on the super cute, the uber sweet, the girly and the sparkly...
especially on such a cold & rainy week, AH....yes...ha ha.

Psssttt

Pssst...
My September e-studio-news was mailed out earlier today.
Sweet & short as usual, just enough to give you a quick once monthly round up
of what the buns & I have been up to in the studio & a bit beyond the studio as well I suppose.

If you signed up to receive my e-news
it would just be like the best cup of sweet creamy coffee ever...
or like a big bowl of whipping cream with chunks of marzipan & dark chocolate on top!
It really really would be that wonderful!!
Just email your name & email address to MandySaile@BijousWhimsy.com or sign up here.

On My Desk

I admit I've been working on yard projects more than on artwork lately but summer is like that.
Especially this past week, it's been a yucky one for head pain so my usual concentration isn't there...
it's just been easier to float from one yard project to the other as the buns play about our beloved yard.
But I do have a few illustrations going...here's one of them.

I can already feel September quickly creeping up...
I am always acutely aware of it...like an anxious kid knowing school is going to start soon.
But with me, it's a mixture of anxiety to get yard projects wrapped up whiles also being a feeling of
gratitude to the cold & foul fall weather which forces me back inside to fuller days in the studio.

We're Back...YAYYY!

Hi Hi Hi Everyone.
Yayyyy...how exciting to begin blogging again.

Let's get right to it shall we...
Here's some of the colourful goodness happening in my studio right now.

A sweet little lady with some furry loves...
(I have a brand new coloured pencil desk set up in my upstairs studio & I LOOOVVVEEE it)

A funky lady who thinks that the higher the hair the closer to shooting stars...ha ha.

Another pretty lady who will be a mixed media and who dreams of hugging Panda Bears...

A beautiful woman and her trio of friends...

and my oh my much more...

I usually do abunch of coloured pencil work and wait till I have a pile before I
do the cutting & painting parts of each piece
but I went crazy over the holidays and just kept colouring and colouring.
So this week I'll have to concentrate on finishing some of the darlings off.

So Yeppers...I am back.
Do join me here a couple times a week at least pretty please.
2014 is going to be a GREAT blogging year, I can just feel it.
