Taking Care of Studio Stresses

Dealing with printers in my studio is always stressful for me,
because they and I typically don't get along, but another part of the studio days
that I find kinda hairy is the part of cutting images to size for their cradled canvases,
laying them down hoping they stay flat & not bubble up
& sealing them hoping I don't get any (or too much!) rabbit fur mixed in!
I wait until I can tackle several pieces at a time....it usually goes just fine.

These are a couple pieces on my desk this week that I am getting finished up.
After I mount them, I let them sit for a couple days before
I apply several coats of a non-yellowing UV protective polyurethane,
than they dry again for a couple weeks before I apply hangers etc
and after that I am ready to photograph them and than start listing
them and offering them to the world (that's a fun part).

On My Desk

I have a watercolour underway...I don't know about it yet!
Watercolours aren't natural for me, anything with a paintbrush I feel a resistance too!

Maybe my fingers are just made for pencils...I don't know...
I guess I'll keep plugging away at it and we'll see where it ends up!

Autumnal Dance Almost Done

I was hoping to show you a finished piece today but I've been having a hard time with a
persistent headache which is now on it's 9th day of plaguing me!
and is unfortunately also at this point slowing me down (yet again!)...

But I can show you a sneak peek of it...
it's almost done and I hope to be able to show it to you this Friday.
Hope your all feeling well and good and strong XO

His & Hers

I hurt my back so I can't lift or sit in my kayak right now,
which is driving me super bonkers
cause I sooooo neeeeeeeddddd to get out there on the water....
If I'm sounding a bit whiney, it's cause I am slightly!  I can never be away from water for long.
Alas, until I can, I have my current projects keeping me busy...

He has his current projects keeping his royal cuteness happy...

and these beautiful summer days are feeling just fine.
Head pain has been at a minimum...
Buns are all getting outside for long days & evenings in the yard...
My studios are a disaster but that's okay I suppose because it means I've been busy!
How's your summer shaping up?

Wool, Looms, Bunnies and Books

This week feels quiet...it's been cold out...the perfect time to clean & organize inside...

It's also been about weaving & setting up my loom to work most comfortably for me & my neck...

It's been about bunny snugs & napping on the floor as buns walk all over our backs (which we love)...

and it's been about resting & reading as we wait for the warm weather to make an appearance!

Sometimes You Just Gotta

Schedules are I think, more often than not, a necessity for full-time artists...
especially those of us who have our studios in our homes
where we face a thousand distractions throughout the day!
Strict routines are key to getting everything done, or at least a fair amount done.

As much as I may want to, I have a really hard time keeping up with routines and schedules.
I am in fact envious of those who can invent their own schedules and keep to them,
for my headaches and migraines are typically the scheduler of my days.
But if I am having a good pain-free streak
I do often find myself snapping into a routine very easily & quickly
and I get SOOOO much done...but for me, that can sometimes be depressing too,
depressing because I realize how much further ahead I'd be if I could stick to a schedule!

But head pain aside...
even on the best of days where your feeling like a million bucks and like you could tackle anything,
Sometimes you gotta throw the studio schedules to the wind
and just let the day take you where it wants to go...

Maybe it's time to transfer some lovely local honey from your big honey pot to your smaller one...

Than maybe the day will find you sitting on the floor
to let your little furry buddies climb all over you as laughter bubbles up from your tummy...

Than perhaps because you skipped breakfast your tummy starts to growl on top of the bubbling,
so you take just 30 or 40 minutes to take in a healthy snack...

Than maybe for creative clarity, you find yourself cleaning up your workspaces...

...and letting your buddies help you out with some organizational ideas...

Than just maybe the day encourages you to snuggle that every so helpful bun for a short spell...

Than opps well my oh my look at that it's way past lunch time
and your starving so it's time for a late lunch with a book before heading into the studio
at least for an hour or two before the sun starts to go down!
And before you know it, the blue hour arrives...
it's time to start dinner...it's time to settle into the evening.
You reminiscence on the day you just had
and you do a mental check on what you've accomplished
and you realize with a happy heart that it's okay that you diverted from your plan...
it's more than okay because you enjoyed the day, you went with the flow.

Because as much as you want to have studio days full of accomplishments
you did accomplish something by filling your well.
And you filled your creative well by making your day as sweet and as good as possible
by dipping your ever so winter-dry toes into the lovely wet softening flow
of just letting things just be exactly how they wanted to be every moment of the day...
and how often do we do that!  Not often enough if you pay attention to how stressed everyone is...

So I am a firm believer, oh yes I am, I believe that sometimes you just gotta let go
and enjoy a day that meanders along slowly around unknown corners...
you just have to enjoy a day that slowly milks the sweetness out of every hour
as you embrace the beauty and simplicity of letting each task lead gently unto the next.

Ahhhhhh.....yes...sometimes you just gotta.

Beauty From A Studio Window

So you guys know by now that I adore & appreciate my studios...
and I can't help but fall head over heels in love with my view
when I look out my studio window to see this kind of beauty...
two white-tail deers just meandering through our front garden,
eating our trees, cleaning themselves...

We live in the middle of a small city...it's amazing to me that we see them now and than.
My breakfast went cold that morning, ha ha, I just couldn't pry myself away from them...
My whole body was physically buzzing from the magical beauty of them...
they refreshed me, heart & soul and I was on a beauty high most of that day...
so amazing...just so so incredibly beautiful and pure and wonderful.

Sewing In Summer

I dragged my sewing machine outside
to sew up what felt like a million curtains for my two studios!
It was really very lovely to do so outside and I found myself sewing until 8 or 9 pm these days.

My trusty and lovely blue Kenmore kicked the bucket about 5 minutes in of course!

But I was gifted my honey bun's beloved late Aunt's sewing desk, machine & bits and bobs,
and the old Eaton Viking has been working like a dream and has now become my favorite.
Don't ya just love it when things just work out for the best, even if it's just a sewing machine!

Florada

You saw her a bit on Tuesday...here's a clearer peek.  I think her name will be 'Florada'

I already have her colour palate blaring out loudly in my head & I can't wait to get started.
