Seraphina And The Night Owl

Finally I get to show you a new picture I just finished up...
It is a coloured pencil on painted paper and is called

"Seraphina And The Night Owl"

Here are a few details...

Finishing this one up seemed to take abit longer than usual.
I think it's because I am pushing my coloured pencil technique, trying to add more texture,
more free movement and more depth by using the pencils on a painted background...
which I am loving but which has caused me to pause and flounder abit here and there, ha ha.
One wouldn't think starting on a dark background instead of a light one would be so different but it is.
I had many moment of frustration where I thought
'Oh Jeepers just start it over on the usual white backing'...
But I purposely wanted to feel and push past that resistance/what-are-you-doing block that
typically bounces up whenever we try something remotely new.

Don't you love her and her lovely vegetarian owl friend...I sure do
(I'll let you know when prints are up in the shop)

See I told you I'd be back soon with a new picture...yayyy.

Be Well lovelies...Be Well.

Owlette Obert & Rabbity Romps

Today I show you the last of my creations in the "Owlette" series...

This little guy's name is 'Obert'

I am sure I'll be making more of these little guys.
I just have to make sure to cut the owl shapes before winter hits because
than I can't get to my tools & scroll saw in the garage.

....

I've been working on the most adorable little felt/stitched/beaded brooches and I can't wait to show you.
but right now I am rushing off to bring our precious Ella Luna outside.
It's been a somewhat stressful balance of making sure my little one gets enough exercise for her
leg troubles but than again not too much exercise...
it's hard hard hard to see my sweet girl get old and to not be as nimble as she once was...
Jon can tell when my hearts squeezing & is feeling all crumbly and he's constantly passing along the assuring 'She's Okay Mandy...we all get old and rickety'
...But still, I think my heart flips about 100 times a day because
a lifetime with this precious heart isn't nearly long enough...
but enough of that...
and outside we go.

Have a wonderful day everyone and
thanks for hopping in.  I hope your all able to get outside and enjoy the day with your furry hearts.

Owlette Oralee

Introducing the 2nd last Owlette....

This quiet sweetie is named
"Oralee"

I had alot of fun with all of the Owlette characters but especially the colour scheme on this one.
(Prints of the Owlettes are coming soon).

Well, that's all for today...I am off to bring Ella Luna, Roo, Jinny and Jaks outside for the day
along with my coloured pencils & perhaps a pot of Bengal Spice tea.
I've had a bad couple of days with head pain and I still feel like I am recuperating
so I think I am going to let myself bring my book along as well...
Hope you all have a superb day & Thanks for Hopping in.

XO Mandy with a seized up neck, an aching knee, a sore tum and a sore foot!!!

Owlette Odo

Want to meet a new Owlette???
This sleepy sweetie is named...
Odo
He is one of my favourites of the series.

I love his 'tranced' look...I think sometimes I feel like this when I am in a good yoga groove, ha ha.

I don't feel much like working on final pieces lately,
but I have been doing alot of sketching & conjuring up of new illustrations & creations...
so I am off to a peppermint tea and my sketchbook and to bring my 4 babies outside...
Have a wonderful day on this beautiful day...

p.s. There is a really important petition to sign if your interested in helping to save the beautiful and majestic Ontario Caribou.  Their habitats are no longer being protected and therefore the creatures themselves will be left unprotected as well...they need us to speak up for them, especially in  a world filled with soul-less bastards who shoot at anything that breathes or walks...It takes just a few minutes to fill out the form.

Owlette Obasi

Another Owlette wanted to make his debut here on this beloved blogling of mine...
His name is 'Obasi'...
He's the wise shaman type of character in the Owlette Series.

(The originals for the Owlettes are not currently for sale
BUT Prints are on their way to my Etsy Shop SOON).

Hope your all staying extra sweet and cozy today...
I think it's about to pour here very soon so I must hurry off to bring Ella Luna outside for a quick dig before it does, otherwise I'll have one miserable little bored bunny on my hands, ha ha.

XO Mandy & Our precious Ella Luna XO

p.s. I just found out that I won this beautiful creation from my fellow bunny lover and blogland friend, the talented Annette Tait.  I am so so excited & thrilled to have one of her pieces coming to live in our cozy rabbity warren.  And, thanks to the good old tradition of the artist's swap, I have another goodie coming from her as well...when they arrive and are settled I'll photograph and post.

Owlette Odalis

Another new Owlette.

This one is named "Odalis"

I love how grouchy he looks, ha ha.

He is indeed yet another coloured pencil on gessoed pine.
I LOVE the colour mixture on this one...the turquoise, greens and oranges...scrumptious.
(Prints of Odalis & the other Owlettes are coming soon).

Tell me, DO YOU like his grouchiness?
It can't always be peaches and sunshine-y goodness now can it!
BUT Let's do try to make sure MOST of the time is, ha ha

Owlette Oakley

Happy Monday Everyone.
Today I am introducing my newest Owlette....
Oakley
Whoo wanted to fly in and say 'Hoot Hoot Hello'

(Prints Will Be Available Soon in my Etsy Shop, I'll let you know when)

You'd perhaps think that Ella Luna, Roo, Jinster and Jaks mind their mama making these Owlettes...
But No Worries...
These owls of mine are of the vegetarian nature & befriend the long-earred kind
(Oh wouldn't that be nice in real life!!!)

I've had a hell of a few days with a monster migraine plaguing me,
I lost pretty much all of Thursday, Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday night.
Most of that time was spent in a dark bedroom, covered in ice packs & with a pillow over my head,
 not fun!
Today I am still feeling abit of the aftermath and must move really slowly, ugh.
I really hope that's it for awhile.  Before this bad bout I was doing pretty well for a couple of weeks.

I hope your all pain-free, enjoying this rainy yet cozy day and that your weeks are off to a wonderful start?

Owlette Owan

Hi everyone, just hopping in today to show you a new creation.  I cut out some owl shapes from kiln dried pine quite a few weeks ago, I did about 10 of them & I had a ball designing each little character to be completely different from the next...and just last week I got around to painting the first little guy...

This series is called "Owlettes" and this little guys name is "Owan"...

I did this piece in acyclic and coloured pencil on gessoed pine.

I am not sure yet if I'll bring the originals of this series to the gallery, to the City Streets Sale or put them up for adoption in my Etsy shop but until I decide I did just put a print version of him in my Etsy shop...

Thanks sooo much to everyone for the lovely birthday wishes, I had the best day and am feeling very very loved, lucky and completely spoiled in the studio today:D

See you all Saturday with Novembers giveaway.

Have a wonderful day.  XO M & The Messy Buns.

Owl 2...a New Picture & Print

I don't have the post about the garden show ready quite yet so I am hopping in today to show you a new picture I just finished up. Another sweet owl...of the kindly vegetarian variety...it's a 5.5 x 5.5 inch coloured pencil with abit of paint added.

(Prints of this little guy (as well as the first little guy) are now available in my Etsy Shop)

You may have noticed that my posts are abit different...I am loving the bigger photo sizes but bare with me as I play around with the new blogger post template & try to get something fancier going on on my sidebars.  Some link back buttons are coming soon as well, for anyone who loves this beloved blog of mine & who wants to support and share with some link loveage.

We have officially started our summer holidays, I am so excited.  Jon takes his summer vacations off as 4 days weekends...and we have 2 months of them to enjoy & enjoy them we will indeed...I don't plan to take time off from my studio/work but if I do find I'll be absent for a few days I promise to give a heads up.

Hope you are all enjoying your summer as well.  Be well lovely people...see you in another couple days:D

A New Picture...Screech Owl

Hopping in today to show you my newest image, a serious little owl done in coloured pencil on paper with abit of white paint added, measuring at only 5 " x 5". I finished this little guy over the weekend and though part of me thinks I shouldn't draw owls because well in real life their diet does consists largely of rabbits, I still can't help but find owls fascinating and incredibly beautiful, hence this one...maybe we can dream up that this one perhaps is of the vegetarian sort or perhaps allergic to rabbits! ha ha...

Prints of this guy are now in the shop in your interested.

A bad migraine set in late Monday night and so I've been having a rough couple days because it just won't go away and in the middle of this heat wave, well let's just say it's starting to wear on me now, so this post will be short. If it gets better I'll post again tomorrow, if not you'll know why I am absent...I just hope it goes away in time for this Saturday for the Symphony Garden Tour where I'll be demonstrating my skills for 6 hours in the sun!

p.s. I just won a beautiful & generous giveaway over at my dear friend Michelle May's Blog "Tales of The Raspberry Rabbits"...I am so surprised and so excited, ha ha. Thanks sooo much lovely Shell. Shell & I might have a very exciting project cooking up together and well today I am just feeling so grateful to all the kindred spirits & beautiful souls I've met through my blog & blogland...hugs hugs hugs. Shell has a wonderful blog with many amazing giveaways, she is a fellow rabbit lover & makes the most beautiful stitchery patterns/kits, so do make sure to hop on over to her spot in blogland...

p.p.s. I am included in a great giveaway over at the fantastic RikRak blog, check it out here.

A New PaperCut and Busy-ness

I barely have time to pop in lately but I did want to just long enough to atleast show you all my latest papercut... I've been getting some great new cutting tools/pens but I have to say that the $13.00 Martha Stewart one found at walmart with the light green mint handle is by far superior to everything else I've tried. I gotta run, life in and out of the studio has felt very crazy the past month and a bit and I feel like I've barely been able to sit back and enjoy any summer and today being cool and only +11 it's feeling like summer has already come and gone! My heart is happy however just coming from a much needed two days away in the big city with my sweet guy and best friend. And on Saturday there was a successful opening for the group juried exhibition "Art By The Bay" out at the Dufresne Gallery, which my honey and mom were kind enough to attend with me (some photos to follow soon). Until next post, be well all and happy happy creativity and being...
